Key town centre road reopens after water main bursts

A burst water main on Groundwell Road on the morning of Monday, March 24, caused the road to be closed from the junction with Lincoln Street to Regent Circus.

The town centre street has now reopened after utility company Thames Water were able to carry out repairs, Swindon Borough Council confirmed on Wednesday.

A spokesperson for the council said: “Groundwell Road, close to the junction of Victoria Road, has reopened following a burst water main on Sunday.

“Thames Water has fixed the issue and resurfaced the area of road impacted.”

On Tuesday, a spokesperson for Thames Water had said the road may not be reopened until Thursday, March 27.

The spokesperson added: “Our engineers have been responding to a burst water main on Groundwell Road in Swindon.

“This is expected to be repaired by 27 March, during which time a road closure is in place.

“We apologise to motorists for any disruption caused while we carry out this urgent repair work.”

A spokesperson for Swindon Borough Council confirmed on Monday that Thames Water would be responsible for carrying out repairs, and advised motorists to seek alternative routes.
